The San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Civic Innovation aims to introduce new ideas and approaches to solve long-standing challenges. We believe that government needs to think like a lean startup: agile, scrappy and customer- focused.
5M PROJECT
The 5M Project is a creative development at 5th and Mission St, designed to support an increasingly interconnected economy and urban culture. We are transforming a development project into an urban ecosystem for social and economic innovation, powered by a culture of shared resources and ideas across traditional boundaries.
5MPLACEWORKS
5MPlaceWorks is a new program led by Intersection for the Arts in collaboration with the 5M Project and Policy Link. It is a solution that transforms the policy-driven community benefits of an urban development project – the 5M Project – into a more sustainable opportunity for social and economic inclusion.

REBAR
Rebar is an interdisciplinary studio operating at the intersection of art, design and ecology. Their work creating Park(ing) Day launched a global movement and dialog around public space. Rebar has created work at venues and institutions around the globe, including the Venice Architecture Biennale and Harvard GSD.
IDEO
IDEO is an award-winning global design firm that takes a human-centered, design-based approach to helping organizations in the public and private sectors innovate and grow. IDEO was honored as one of Fast Company’s 25 Most Innovative Companies, and earned the National Design Museum’s National Design Award.
