Darkness Map is a crowd-sourced data visualization that portrays the amount of light and darkness in the nighttime urban environment on a human scale.
Satellite images of the Earth at night are marked by the brightness of cities and swaths of darkness that reveal nightime power as primarily a first-world commodity. The Darkness Map Project aims to zoom in on the city by capturing and communicating the city’s nightime luminosity on a human scale through crowd-sourced data collection and visualization.
